WHEN AESTHETIC AND TECHNICAL REQUIREMENTS MEET: ANATOMY OF AN ECO-LEATHER* WATERPROOF DECK CUSHION FOR YACHTS AND RESIDENTIAL OUTDOORS

Beyond the aesthetic appearance of an eco-leather* waterproof cushion for yachts and residential outdoor, it is primary to ensure that all technical requirements have been met during the manufacturing process.
In fact, it is not always the fault of the eco-letaher* if the cushion discolored in the sun or if it appears moldy or, worse, it is soaked with water!
Dictated by 40 years of experience, here are the first 3 “details” of crucial importance to be followed by others, equally important.

As for the eco-leather* waterproof cushion, first of all pay attention:
1) To the padding-foam used
2) To the type of the external cover and its maintenance
3) To the choice of material to be inserted at the bottom of the cushion
Padding/foams. There are three types:

A) open-cell foams of polyurethane or polyester of different densities. These should be protected with a Tyvek® Dupont liner since it has specific features as it is waterproof and breathable: this combination prevents the mold formation and degradation of the expanded foam.
B) Reticulated foams treated with biocides that let water pass and dry quickly (Dryfeel)
C) Expanded closed cells that do not absorb water, so they do not mold and do not weigh because they do not impregnate water (Polsoft)
The external covers and their maintenance standards – Are preferable eco-leathers * in PVC than in PU, as the latter will deteriorate quickly in the sun and resents an environment saturated saline vapors.
In addition to the choice of the materials, it is of utmost importance to respect the cleaning standards.
The choice of material to be inserted at the bottom of the cushion. At the bottom of the pillow should be used a net or any other material as long as it is breathable so to allow the aeration of the padding thereby avoid the formation of molds and mushrooms that stain the pillows and make them smelly.
